About

Dr. Ellison studies freshwater ecosystems and mentors undergraduate researchers through Guilford Rise. Her students present at regional conferences — often as first-years — and several have co-authored published work. She teaches with the door open, literally: her lab is a place students wander into and stay.

  • BIOL 340 — Ecology & Field Methods
  • BIOL 480 — Research Capstone (Guilford Rise)

About the program

Biology at Guilford is hands-on from the first semester — small labs, real field sites, and faculty who put you on live research rather than canned exercises. You’ll leave with a portfolio of work, not just a transcript.

What you’ll study

  • Core: cell & molecular biology, ecology, genetics, organismal biology
  • Electives across microbiology, neuroscience, and environmental science
  • A research capstone through Guilford Rise

Where it leads

Graduates go on to medical and graduate school, conservation and lab careers, and health professions — advised the whole way by faculty who know their names.
